About Whitton

Whitton is perhaps the most affordable town in the Borough of Richmond, but it does not compromise on quality. It is a popular residential suburb both for tenants and buyers and is bordered by Twickenham, Richmond and Hampton.

Whitton has a rich history. The Market Gardens, more famously known as the Cabbage Patch was renowned for flowers, apples as well as plum and pear orchards. In 1907, the Cabbage Patch was brought by Billy Williams and was re-developed into a rugby ground – today, Twickenham Rugby Ground on Whitton Road is the home of English Rugby. Another key landmark in Whitton is Kneller Hall, currently occupied by the Royal Military School of Music. It was once a stately home and takes its name from Sir Godfrey Kneller who purchased the original Manor House. In the summer, Kneller Hall opens its gates to the public for summer concerts. This event combines fantastic entertainment with the opportunity for concert-goers to bring along their picnics whilst enjoying music performed by the Military School.

The area positively embraces its community with a variety of youth groups, schools, churches and community groups. The community is currently all united together twice a year by the Whitton Business Association who hold a “Christmas Extravaganza” event in November and a St. George's Day Parade and Fun Day in April on the main high street. With its great transport links, Whitton is well placed to visit some of London's Royal Parks, the Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew, Hampton Court Palace and enjoy walks along some beautiful stretches of the River Thames.

Whitton is served by the London bus network meaning that a frequent service is constantly in operation. From Whitton, via bus there is easy access to Twickenham, Kingston, Tolworth, Richmond, Heathrow Airport and Hounslow.
