Thornton Heath - Area Guide - Townends

For those of you who prefer the great outdoors, Thornton Heath has easy access to greenbelt land and great open spaces such as Whitehorse Meadow nature reserve, Grangewood Park, Thornton Heath recreation ground, and many other local parks. There are some great sports facilities around the town, such as Thornton Heath Pool & Fitness Centre and for football fanatics, Selhurst Park Stadium is very close by. Families in the area are well serviced by these facilities as well as a good selection of private and state schools.

Thornton Heath offers a wide variety of properties for buyers and tenants from Victorian and Edwardian homes to conversion flats and family homes. The High Street has an eclectic mix of older properties alongside some more recent developments. Many of the properties in this area are conversions, making it a hot spot for first time buyers. Families tend to head for 1930’s estates closer to Croydon, whilst the other side of town offers far more suburban living.

Trains into London from Thornton Heath (Zone 4) take approximately 20 minutes and there are regular bus services running to Croydon town centre, as well as central London. Motorway networks are also easily accessible from the area.

Thornton Heath is located between Croydon and Norbury in the South London borough of Croydon and is a popular commuter town.

The town is one of the most multicultural areas in Croydon, encompassing large Asian and Afro-Caribbean populations. This has had a significant influence on the wide variety of churches, mosques and shops in the area and makes for a very vibrant town.
