Tucked just off the High Street is Guildford Castle which dates back to the 11th century. Visitors can walk through the beautifully kept grounds and go up the tower for 360 degree views of the surrounding area.
The nearby River Wey is a popular location for walks, cycling, rowing and boat trips, particularly in the summer when families, couples and groups head to the large green areas around the river. Equally popular at all times of the year is Pewley Downs which leads directly on to Newlands Corner, a popular beauty spot not far from Guildford's bustling town centre. Newlands Corner is one of Surrey’s top natural beauty spots, with panoramic views over the Surrey Hills and paths leading to local villages such as Shere, which has been used as a film set on many occasions.
New to Guildford is Surrey Sports Park which offers sports and leisure facilities of the highest standard including an Olympic sized swimming pool. It is very likely that this venue will be used by various teams as a base during the London 2012 Olympics.
Guildford is a popular location with home owners and tenants of all age groups, not only because it is home to the Surrey University but because of the excellent variety of facilities and amenities it offers, including its close proximity to London.
