Those wanting more of a village environment should look at Englefield Green, located just outside Egham, which offers all of the characteristics of a small village with its country pubs, village Green and community centre.

There is a good selection of private and state schools in the area. Egham has a large student population, many of which attend the architecturally beautiful Royal Holloway College which is now part of the University of London.

Egham has a broad variety of properties, from semi-detached houses in the main residential estates of the town, to Victorian terraces, older cottages, smaller starter homes, flats and more expensive properties, housing from low-income families to the more affluent. Residents parking in the area is free but the roads can become congested with parked cars.

Egham mainline station has trains running into London Waterloo with travel times taking approximately 30 to 45 minutes. It is also situated on the A30 providing easy access to the M25 for Heathrow airport and has a number of bus links.

Egham

Egham is a small commuter town in the Runnymede Borough of Surrey, surrounded by plenty of green space. Predating 666AD, Egham is steeped in history, appearing in the Domesday book of 1086 as Egeham. The Magna Carta was sealed at nearby Runnymede in 1215 and a memorial at the foot of Coopers Hill can be found to commemorate it.

There is plenty to do and get involved with in the area, from relaxing afternoon walks along side the Thames, to bowls and brass bands. The abundance of green space in and around Egham, such as Windsor Great Park and Virginia Water, provide some lovely recreational areas to enjoy on a summer's afternoon. Wraysbury, to the north of Egham, is home to the British Disabled Waterski Association and for thrill seekers Thorpe Park theme park is located to the south of Egham and provides a wide variety of rides and attractions for the whole family.

The High Street in Egham is pedestrianised and offers a good selection of shops to meet basic shopping needs, as well as butchers and bakers whose family businesses have served the area for centuries. The parking in Egham is cheap and conveniently situated either side of the High Street and next to the train station. For a broader selection of shops, many of the locals travel to the nearby towns of Staines and Windsor.
